Baseball Earns AMCC Split With La Roche

PITTSBURGH – Every series is crucial when it comes to conference play for all the teams in the AMCC. This was especially so for the Bobcats as they took on La Roche in the team's third AMCC doubleheader today.

Pitt-Greensburg ace Nate Mankoski earned his sixth win of the season in game one as the Bobcats held the RedHawks to just four hits and two runs. Mankoski struck out four batters in a seven-inning complete game. The Bobcats were able to get eight hits and three earned runs on the La Roche starter, giving the team all, it would need.

Ben Aftanas, Jace Cappellini and Christopher Hammond all had multiple hits in game one. Freshman Colin Solinski, who is ranked in the top five in Division III for batting average, went 1-for-2 with a run scored and a RBI.

Game two saw the Bobcats take a 6-2 lead in the third inning, only for La Roche to come storming back to make it 6-5 in the bottom of the third inning. The Bobcats extended its lead to 7-5, but the RedHawks then scored eight unanswered.

The Bobcats had a rally in them in the bottom of the ninth inning but came up two runs short.

Pitt-Greensburg will host Penn College in a doubleheader on Monday. First pitch of game one will be at 1 PM.
